Ray Liotta was cast in the film in 2022
Story
A fading celebrity takes a black market drug: a cell-replicating substance that temporarily creates a better, younger version of herself. in February, but died in May of that year before he could film his scenes. He was replaced by Dennis Quaid, but Liotta is still mentioned in the director’s “Acknowledgements”; during the credits. The bathroom mirror reappears intact after being repeatedly smashed in the fight.

Elisabeth Sparkle: There was some abuse of the material. Special thanks in the credits to the many extras on the theater stage who were covered in blood. I must admit that I did an injustice to Madame Fargeat when I reviewed her first film (Revenge), because at the time I saw it as a pseudo-feminist rape-and-revenge thriller with significant logical problems.
And this is where Fargeat shines, even more than in Revenge
But now it’s clear to me: “message” is just a starting point; otherwise, what she wants most of all is to have fun and show people her amazing style, which I really liked in her first film. This time it was clear from the beginning: there’s no need to even think about suspending disbelief: the not-so-young TV celebrity Elizabeth Sparkle (Demi Moore), now a main dancer on the fitness show, is rejected by her producer (Dennis Quaid) because of her age. She then gets an offer to create a younger version of herself (Margaret Qualley) using the title material. But doing so requires following the rules, and it’s getting harder and harder, especially for the younger version, with serious consequences.
And huge respect to Demi Moore!
Body horror at its finest, it makes Cronenberg, Stuart Gordon and Brian Yuzna almost look like beginners. Other horror films are also cheerfully cited (including The Shining, Carrie and Freaks) without ever seeming forced or pandering. On the other hand, this film is not scary at all – although there are some pretty profound effects (I just say “spinal tap”), instead there are plenty of laughs for all the excessive action. It takes a lot of courage to reveal yourself and let yourself be portrayed like that!
